Hello!

I'm Danny, a private tutor and academic editor based in Perth, Western Australia.

For my tutoring, I cater to school students (year 5 to 12), as well as university students, and I believe that private university tutoring is an interesting and important gap in the market.

I come from a multidisciplinary background, possessing both a Bachelor of Psychology (B-PSYCH) and a Master of Arts (MArts) in Professional Writing and Publishing. My interests lie in the intersection between the health/social sciences and all-encompassing fields such as philosophy and professional communication. Therefore, I am able to offer tutoring services to students from multiple fields.

In practice, most of the university students I work with are studying psychology, at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level, with others studying adjacent social/health sciences. Non-psychology students who I have recently found myself being a good fit for include those enrolled in courses such as Bachelor of Health Sciences (B-HTHSCI), Bachelor of Arts (BP001) in Law and Society, and Master of Human Rights (MC-HRIGHT).

I also offer copyediting and proofreading tailored to academic writing.

In terms of school-level tutoring, I focus on English all the way from year 5 to year 12, as well as Psychology, Biology, and Human Biology at the ATAR level.

I am a great believer in meeting people where they are at and helping them in accordance with their values and goals. For school students, this can mean talking to the parents about areas of concern for their children. For university students, this involves being able to appreciate that some students are able to polish their essays for weeks, while other students may be juggling study with full-time work and/or other life commitments. My aim is to provide appropriate help to students in both groups, so that they can achieve their goals without feeling pressured to turn to rely on essay writing AI or such suboptimal solutions. We all have different strengths, different priorities, and different situations, and I aim to be of help regardless.

My Story

I began my journey into higher education in 2018, when I started my Bachelor of Psychology (B-PSYCH). Despite not having a clear vision of what my post-study goals were, I was always fascinated by ideas and the nature of the mind. As a passionate reader of both fiction and non-fiction books, I knew that writing would always be a part of my life.

During the second year of my undergraduate degree, I received a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This helped me to better understand why I struggled to focus on the task at hand and direct my passion in a singular direction. Over time, my increasing understanding of how my own brain works allowed me to refine my study skills and get to the point where I was consistently receiving high distinction marks.

The real wildcard was when I finished my Bachelor of Psychology and undertook a master's in Professional Writing and Publishing. I now had two very different degrees and, therefore, an unclear path ahead. However, in many ways, I had more direction than ever. I saw the similarities in what I found interesting about the different disciplines and gained a wider appreciation for the academic world. Furthermore, by participating in student workshops and classroom discussions, I was able to develop a passion for helping others refine their writing and engage with their studies.

Having now completed both a Bachelor of Psychology (B-PSYCH) and a Master of Arts (MArts) in Professional Writing and Publishing (with distinction), I am well acquainted with the academic world and would love to share my skills with a wider audience.

I have now been offering private tutoring services for over a year and I have found it very fulfilling.
